Super Eagles midfielder and Leicester City star, Kelechi Iheanacho has given an insight into why the senior football team has suddenly become very competitive with some heartwarming results in three group matches in the on-going 33rd Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
Speaking to the media after Nigeria defeated Guinea- Bissau 2-0 in the last match of Group D played at Stade Roumde Adjia, Garoua on Wednesday night, Iheanacho who supplied Sadiq Umar the ball he converted to earn Nigeria the first goal in the game said the team has new identity which is the reason for the resurgence.
According to him: “there is a new identity in the national team, that is very important and everyone in the team is happy about it”.
The former junior international who is enjoying a great season in Leicester City in the 2021/22 season disclosed that Super Eagles players are relishing the new identity in the team, adding that every player in the team is comfortable with the situation.
Iheanacho who scored Nigeria”s lone goal against Egypt in the opening match of Group D argued that the new identity in the national team had helped to galvanize the team more than ever before “.
