By Gracious Akujobi The Super Eagles Saturday failed to qualify for the Afcon 2015, after they played 2-2 draw with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Uyo international stadium.
Eagles missed scoring chances in the first half as Ahmed Musa failed to score twice when he had just the keeper to beat.
They had kept hope alive when they beat Congo 2-0 a forth night ago and needed a win to cement their place in Equatorial Guinea next January.
The boys failed to impress in first half as South Africa stamped their authority in the match and got two goals through their top scorer Rantie in the first match.
The Eagles left it late in the second half but not until Hull City player Sone Aluko came and score a goal in the 67th minute which kept hope alive. He again scored the second goal in the 90th minute but that was too little too late as it ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.
Nigeria could not make the numerical advantage cuing as Reneilwe Letshonlowane got the marching order in the 71st minute.
They were hoping to qualify as best losers but their total 8 points was not even to see them qualify as best losers as Congo DR finished with 9 points and Egypt may yet take the spot if they beat Tunisia
The last time Equatorial Guinea and Gabon hosted the tournament in 2012, Nigeria failed to qualify.
