Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede, has reacted to criticism after cutting her hair for a role in the 2024 movie Aja.
Taking to her Instagram page, the screen goddess recalled going bald 15 years ago, adding that she chose to do it again because she is not an actress who only goes for “champagne” roles and is more concerned about looks.
Yvonne Jegede said that she loves risky movie roles and cutting her hair is a daring choice she made.
She said, “Fifteen years ago, I took the bold step of going completely bald. I’ve always been known for daring choices with my hair, and maybe that’s because I’m blessed with great hair. #Aja #AjaTheMovie demanded a transformation – not just for the money $, but because of @lopeorire (the brilliant Writer/Producer) whose talent is unmatched.
“I’m not one for “champagne” roles that are all about looks; the riskier, the more I’m drawn in. I was on the phone with @Officialsamolatunji1 (my manager) every day, telling him I HAD to be in this film because the story captivated me.
“When this movie drops on streaming platforms, expect to see me front and center! I’m immensely proud of this project – NOTHING like what’s out there. This film will spark debates, and that’s exactly why I poured everything into this role.
“Thank you for all the support, and I know you’re going to love #Aja.
“This project is my baby – forget that Titi Orire owns it; it’s MINE.
“Yvonne Jegede is every director’s dream and every producer’s delight – no stress on set, and all in for promotion.”
