Premier League sides, Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia and Enyimba International of Aba have qualified for the semi-finals of this year’s Abia FA Cup competition after dispatching their respective opponents at the quarter finals at the weekend.
They have been joined at the last four by Warriors City rivals, Abia Comets and surprise package, FC Abonta of Aba.
To make it to the semi-finals, Enyimba ended the dreams of Flying Birds of Aba 6-0. Flying Birds had beaten solo Wanderers 1-0 and eliminated Diamond FC of Umuahia 2-1 but found Enyimba a hard nut to crack as the Peoples Elephant made a mincemeat of them to end their aspirations.
For Abia Warriors, they beat KAMBU FC of Aba 2-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium to advance to the last four. Youngsters, Shedrack Asiegbu and Michael Olaha scored the goals for the Warriors as the Aba team, which had earlier eliminated Enyimba Feeders and Chidex FC both of Aba, had to go home empty handed.
On their own, Abia Comets crushed local side, Ibeku United of Umuahia 4-0 to qualify for the last four while FC Abonta, who would be Enyimba’s semi-final opponents, had earlier eliminated City rivals, Ben FC and Abia Warriors feeders Team to advance to the last four.
Umuahia would definitely be on fire when city rivals, Abia Warriors and Abia Comets clash in the other semi-final encounter. Comets had lost to the Warriors at the same stage two years ago but did not register for the competition last year.
Winners of the semi-final encounters will represent Abia State in the Federation Cup scheduled across the nation later in the year.
