The chairman of Abia Warriors football club of Umuahia, Pastor Emeka Inyama has described his team’s impressive 3-0 hammering of Plateau United of Jos in the weekend’s Nigeria Professional Football Leaque (NPFL) as the best Christmas gift he received this yuletide.
Speaking from his country-home in Umunwanwa, Umuahia in Abia State today, Inyama revealed that he had expected a slim victory over the leaque leaders, Plateau United but was pleasantly surprised of the final scoreline.
“Although I have always believed in my team and I know that we (Abia Warriors) are capable of beating any team at home and away, I didn’t expect the high scoreline against a tough opponent and league leaders like Plateau United “, the veteran journalist turned football administrator disclosed.
According to the former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) executive board member, “Plateau United have been impressive since the beginning of the NPFL season and because of their run of good form I expected a slim win but surprisingly my team stepped up and scored three unreplied goals on the day”.
Inyama therefore commended Abia Warriors players and officials for giving him the best Christmas gift, adding that the club will go into the new year on happy note.
The home team (Warriors) tutored by Cameroonian Emmanuel Deutsch ensured that Coach Abdul Maikaba’s side that came to Umuahia township stadium on Sunday returned to Jos empty handed with goals from Emma Ugwuka in 28th minute; substitute Guy Keumian in the 83rd minute and Bashiru Lukman in the 87th minute of the game.
By the weekend’s victory Abia Warriors have climbed to the 4th position on the 20-team log with 17 points behind Plateau United, Lobi Stars and Rivers United with 21, 18 and 18 points respectively
