The abductors of Mrs Ogbona Orumo, mother-in-law of the Bayelsa House of Assembly Speaker, Kombowei Benson, have demanded N40 million ransom.
Prompt News recalls that 90-year-old Mrs. Orumo, was abducted last Friday from her Seibiri compound in Korokorosei Community by unknown gunmen.
We learnt the abductors made the demand through the family. Meanwhile, traditional rulers have called on the State Government to step up efforts in combating crime and criminality.
The Chairman of the Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council, King Godwin Igodo, who led other Traditional Rulers including King Joshua Igbagara and King Joshua Igbugburu, lamented the activities of armed kidnappers, saying it was strange to the culture of the Ijaw people.
“I have been a victim. I spent 29 days in the den of kidnappers under the rain and the sun,” he recalled.
Meanwhile, Bayelsa Speaker, Kombowei Benson, has called for the establishment of a mobile police base in Korokorosei community, in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Piriye Kiyaramo, he made the call when he visited his in-laws over the kidnap of their daughter, urging them to be patient.
He had words of advice for the youths in the area, “I call on Youths in the area not to allow themselves to be lured into the crime of kidnapping, among other heinous crimes that come with unimaginable consequences in the future, reiterating that the long arm of the law will always catch up those that perpetrate such atrocious crimes.”
