The leadership of the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) has commended the President of United State, Barrack Obama and other nations that have offered to assist the Federal Government in the battle against insurgency and rescue of abducted school girls by the Boko Haram sect.
The CLO in a statement signed by the Bayelsa State Chairman, Nengi James, described the offer by the United States, United Kingdom and International Communities as commendable and the acceptance by President Goodluck Jonathan as unprecedented.
According to the CLO while such offer is a necessary step to rescue the abducted school girls and save the nation further mourning from the bomb attacks by the Boko Haram sect, it should also prepare the grounds for the arrest and prosecution of identified leaders and sponsors of the sect.
The CLO noted that the sponsors and members of the Boko Haram sect caught should be prosecuted in the International Criminal Court for terrorism and acts against humanity. The prosecution of those apprehended as sponsors and Boko Haram members must ensure that the fundamental Rights of Children are protected.
On the part of the Federal Government, the CLO urged President Goodluck Jonathan to take a bold step and identify security loop holes and moles in the security arrangement of the nation including a complete overhaul of strategies and missions to stem the barbaric acts of insurgency.
CLO warned that failure by President Goodluck Jonathan to back up security assistance, offered by US,UK and other foreign countries, may come to not if they are not backed up with practical overhaul of personnel and strategy.
The CLO pointed out that there is the need to investigate the rising cases of wealth among military officers and personnel to detect those used and paid to serve as mole in the security operations of the Federal Government.
