Bolaji Oyegunle, London The Federal Government is planning a total overhaul of the nation’s lottery system, Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Taminu Turaki has said.
The Minister disclosed this when he led a delegation on a courtesy call on the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, in London.
He said the delegation was in London to understudy Chamelot, the sole lottery organization in the UK, saying his ministry was committed to making sure that lottery creates wealth for Nigeria as it is done globally.
“We must not come here without visiting you your Excellency. We have to visit you and inform you of our mission. We are here to have interactive meetings with Chamelot, the sole lottery in the United Kingdom in order to move the business forward in the country,” the minister said.
According to Turaki, lottery can only work in effectively in Nigeria to create wealth only if the industry is totally overhauled.
Turaki said, “The lottery industry should be overhaul in Nigeria if only we want it to work. And also ensure that licenses and regulations work the way and manner lottery is been manageable globally”.
Addressing the delegation, the High Commissioner, Dalhatu Tafida, praised the minister and his delegation for choosing United Kingdom in order to share the experience of the country regarding lottery.
