First Lady, Patience Faka Jonathan, has counseled girls to have confidence in themselves and actualize their vision with dedication and commitment.
She gave the advice on Wednesday when she received members of the Lady Mechanics Association of Nigeria, in the State House Abuja.
Mrs. Jonathan noted that if young girls were focused and determined, they could excel in whatever field of human endeavour they find themselves.
She observed that through the Lady Mechanics Initiative, young women have been equipped with skills that will enable them to compete with their male counterparts in the field of auto mechanics.
The First Lady observed that this will go a long way in ensuring that young girls not only become self reliant, but possibly become employers of labour.
Mrs. Jonathan further stated that this could substantially bridge the gender gap in the auto mechanic industry which was previously dominated by men.
“There are millions of young Nigerians who can contribute meaningfully to the process of nation building if only we are able to tap into their abundant potentials,” she said.
In her remarks earlier, Sandra Aguebor Ekperuoh, the Founder of the Lady Mechanics Association Initiative, informed that the organization was established to empower girls and women with technical and mechanical skills to become competent in the field of automotive repairs and maintenance. She stated that the goal of the organization was to train up to 300 girls and women annually.
Present at the occasion were Amina Namadi Sambo, wife of the Vice President, Nwanneka Ekweremadu, wife of the Deputy Senate President; wives of members of the Senate and House of Representatives; Ministers’ wives as well as the President, National Council for Women Societies, Nkechi Mba among others.
