The Federal Capital Territory Administration will spend N28.11 billion to provide engineering infrastructure in a new district, Wasa.
To realize this, the Minister of FCT, Bala Mohammed on Wednesday sought and got Cabinet approval to go ahead, Minister of Information, Labaran Maku has said.
Maku, who briefed State House correspondents after the weekly Cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo, said the creation of new districts like Wasa and provision of infrastructure was necessary to realize government’s policy to decongest Abuja City.
Speaking further on the contract which was awarded to Gilmor Construction Company, FCT Minister of State, Olajumoke Akinjide, said the contract specifications will include site clearance, sewage, water supply, electrical supply and street lighting, among others, for the 267-hectare district.
She said opening up new districts with necessary infrastructure would affordable housing sites for Nigerians as co-operatives and registered associations of workers in private and public service available.
“The project is in line with the establishment of FCT Satellite Development Agency whose mandate is to provide infrastructural facilities and social amenities to satellite towns and rural areas of the FCT.
“In addition, the project, upon completion, will generate employment for at least 30 professionals, 50 technicians and 100 unskilled labourers,” Akinjide explained.
