By Paul Effiong, ABUJA – The embattled Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof Usman Yusuf Monday defied suspension by the NHIS Board as he resumed duty amidst tight security.

However, some workers protested his bid to resume duty by blocking the entrance to his office.

CHANNELS TV reports that heavy security personnel were also seen at the gate as workers struggled with security men while some staff loyal to the Executive Secretary succeeded in breaking the keys to the gate.

Prompt News Online recalls that the Board of NHIS chaired by Dr. Enyantu Ifenne, last week Friday, announced the indefinite suspension of the Executive Secretary, accusing him of fraud, insubordination and corrupt practices.

“The ES is suspended indefinitely to pave unfettered space for the committee to do thorough investigations into the matter,” the chairman had announced.

Recall also, that the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, had suspended the NHIS Boss in July last year but was recalled in February this year, 2018 via a letter by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.
