The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday secured a court order restraining the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal from effecting leadership change until further notice.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Abuja Federal High Court in his ruling ordered that status quo be maintained pending the determination of a suit filed by the PDP.
Consequently, he fixed the hearing on the substantive suit and preliminary objections from the defendants for Monday, February 3, 2014.
Following the defection of 37 members of PDP to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), the latter party which now has the majority in the Lower House has been issuing subtle threat to effect leadership change.
Apparently disturbed by the APC threat, PDP headed to court to restrain the leadership of the House from effecting the leadership change pending the determination of its suit.
Also in Sokoto state, 27 members of the State House of Assembly who also defected to the APC recently have been dragged before a Federal High Court in the state by their two PDP members who stay put in the party.
