By Gracious Akujobi The Head Coach of the national U-20 women’s team, Falconets, Peter Dedevbo has assured that complacency will not set in when his girls take on South Africa for return leg of the qualifying final match of the FIFA U-20 women world cup holding in Canada.
In a chat with Prompt News Online after his team played a 1-1 draw with the National U-17 side Flamingoes in a test match at the FIFA Goal project Abuja, Dedevbo says the match was to bring his girls up to match fitness level.
“Well as you can see from this match, what we are trying to do is to prepare the girls to get match fitness in readiness for the journey to South Africa .The team is fit and focused. It is the match fitness that we want to get but overall, I am impressed with what the two teams played”.
Falconets will be traveling to South Africa with a 6-0 goal margin, result that has virtually handed the qualification ticket to the team but Dedevbo assures that the girls will take that match like the first leg as they won’t allow complacency set in.
He spoke further, “The way and manner my girls played the U-17 girls will not be the same way we will play South Africa. We are not taking that Match lightly, we are going into that match as though it is the first leg so we are very focused and will not allow complacency set in.
“We were being careful with the match against the Flamingoes because we do not want to lose any player to injury. The girls are focused and we want to come back from South Africa with result”.
Meanwhile, the Falconets will depart Nigeria on the January 22 for South Africa. The South African Football Association has confirmed that the match will be played on January 25 at the Dobsonville Stadium, Johannesburg. The team is expected back in the country on January 26.
