Defending Champions of the AITEO Cup Women’s football competition, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt have zoomed to the top of the table in Lafia Centre following their emphatic 2-0 defeat of Osun Babes FC yesterday at Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa State.
Two second half goals from Yetunde Adeboyejo and Rafiat Sule in the 59th and 90th plus 3rd minutes of the game gave Rivers Angels the much needed victory and vital three points to be on top of Group A which also has Bayelsa Queens FC of Yenagoa.
The first half of the highly contested game was full of dramas as both teams went all out to attack their opponent in search of vital goals but it was the more experienced Rivers Angels that missed several chances of getting the goals.
Vibrant Alice Ogebe and Sule who later scored in the second half kept Osun Babes goalkeeper, Christiana Obia busy as she stopped most of the dangerous efforts of Rivers Angels.
At the other side, Osun Babes enterprising duo of Koku Damilola and Kesiena Ojiyovwi missed a couple of chances to scare Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal for Rivers Angels.
Meanwhile, Osun Babes will file out again this after to confront Bayelsa Queens Feeder team in what will be their make or mar match as another loss will see the Coach Bashir Liadi tutored side kiss goodbye to the competition.
