By Paul Efiong In order to arrest incessant cases of killings, kidnapping and armed robbery in Zamfara state, Senator Saidu Dansadau has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare State of Emergency in the state and appoint an Administrator.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the senator who shed tears profusely over security situation in his state blamed the state governor, Abdulaziz Yari, accusing him of not consulting with major stakeholders in the state to bring an end to mass killing of people by unknown bandits.
The senator who was very emotional during the media briefing also suggested a high powered delegation to be led by General Yakubu Gowon among other former heads of state and president to visit Zamfara.
He recalled sending a letter to President Buhari on 18th June 2018 under the caption: Request to Take Extra-Ordinary Measures in Accordance With Constitution to Halt the High Level of Mass Killings in Zamfara State, Personal visitation as well as footing of hospital bills of victims.
According to the senator “my letter dated 14th june 2016 to the president was on him to invoke his powers under section 305(3) and (5) of the constitution and declare a State of Emergency in Zamfara state doing so through an appointment of a competent Administrator for the state until such a time when the President, through. The Administrator is satisfy that normalcy has been restored”. He explained.
The senator who is the Chairman of National Rescue Movement (NRM), one of the registered political parties in Nigeria had before the briefing told newsmen at the event that Zamfara killings is under reported, using the occasion to solicit media cooperation through good reportage to draw federal and security agencies attention to insecurity situation in Zamfara, to bring an end to wanton killing of innocent Nigerians in the state.
He alleged that Zamfara state governor has willfully abandoned his responsibilities as Chief Security Officer of the state asking president Buhari again to act in accordance with Section 5(2),176 (2) and specifically Section 215 (4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stressing that Governor Yari”s persistence absent from the State to take charge of issues and deal with them squarely has worsen the situation.
Senator Dansadau while lamenting over perceived silence accorded to several of his letters sent to the President Buhari also disclosed how he copied both the Senate President and the Speaker of the House.
The senator alleged that inspite of the known identities of these criminals, the police have not been able to do the needful to secure the communities and protect lives and property in Zamfara.
