A Kasuwan Nama Upper Area Court, Jos, on Thursday sentenced 29-year- old Usman Abdullahi, to one year imprisonment for house-breaking and theft.
The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, who convicted Abdullahi, found him guilty of the charges of burglary and stealing levelled against him, and did not give him option of fine.
He said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to those contemplating committing such crimes.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Ibrahim Gukwat, said the complainant, Amina Kaman, who resides at Zaria Road, Jos, reported the case on June 5, at the Divisional Police Station.
He said that the complainant disclosed that the convict broke into her living room and stole her LCD television, a laptop and an MP3 player, all valued at N183, 000.
Gukwat told the court that when police detectives arrested the convict, they found in his possession some of the stolen items.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 347 and 288 of the Penal Code.
