The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a National Institute of Construction Technology in Uromi, Edo state.
Vice President Namadi Sambo disclosed this at the weekend in Uromi, home town of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Anenih.
He was speaking on the occasion of a special thanksgiving mass at the St Anthony’s Catholic Cathedral, Uromi, for the 80th birthday of Anenih.
It will be recalled that the birthday was earlier celebrated in Abuja with pomp and ceremony on August 4, this year.
According to Sambo, the establishment of the institute was in appreciation by the Federal Government of Anenih’s invaluable contributions to the socio-political and economic development of the nation.
The Vice President poured encomiums on Anenih, whom he described as “our dear elder statesman, father and mentor,” commending life of commitment and dedication to the service of God and humanity, adding that his life personified hard work and resilience.
Sambo went down memory lane regarding Anenih’s political exploits from the defunct Second Republic through his leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the defunct Third Republic to the formation and growth of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he (Anenih) currently chairs the Board of Trustees, concluding that he (Anenih) is a fighter in the political arena and stickler for peace, unity and stability of the nation
He stated that Anenih is a staunch believer in truth, pointing out that his exemplary life of hard work, commitment, sincerity and love of God is worthy of emulation.
“As a mark of appreciation for the contributions of this great man, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has graciously granted approval for the establishment of the National Institute of Construction Technology in Uromi,” he announced.
Anenih, who said he could not thank God enough for keeping him in good health at 80, expressed his deepest appreciation for the gesture by the Federal Government under the able leadership of President Jonathan.
He also thanked distinguished Nigerians, among them Nigeria’s former Ambassador and member of the BoT of the PDP, Hassan Adamu (Wakili Adamawa), the Esama of Benin, Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, Chief of Staff to the President, Mike Ogiadhome, State Chairman of the PDP, Dan Orbih, Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, for attending the thanksgiving mass.
