By Gracious Akujobi Minister of Sports and Chairman of National Sports Commission (NSC), Bolaji Abudullahi, is optimistic that Nigeria will record more achievements in 2014.
Nigeria is billed to participate in two major international sporting events next year. They are the World Cup in Brazil and the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, United Kingdom, as well as a couple on national sporting events.
Speaking at the end of the Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the National Council on Sports held in Abuja, the Minister charged all states of the Federation including the FCT to concentrate on how to develop athletes in areas where they have comparative advantage, adding that the Ministry would continue to work hard to build on the achievements recorded in 2013.
“The year 2014 is going to be important in the sports activities in Nigeria because that is the year we have series of competitions.
“In 2014, we have World Cup in Brazil, Commonwealth games in Scotland, National Sports Festival, Youths Olympic amongst others.
“It is quite a busy year but we believe that if we can build on success of 2013, we are going to have more success in 2014”.
