By Gracious Akujobi Nigeria’s Falconets Saturday at the Abuja National Stadium defeated their Tunisian counterpart 4-0 in a FIFA U-20 world cup qualifying match.
The first half was goalless as the Tunisians came with a defensive game plan which made the game cagey and the Falconets could not find the back of the Tunisian net.
It was better in the second half as the Tunisian came out to play. However, goal from team captain Patience Okaeme and a hat trick from Uchechi Sunday were enough to give them four goals advantage as they go for the return leg.
Coach of the team Peter Dedevbo says he has no fear as his team prepare for the second leg but was disappointed with the way his girls executed the match
” I have no fear going into the second half, we can defend our four goals. I am disappointed with my players, they lost scoring chances in the first half which should have calmed our nerves and allow them play good football.
“I am not going to Tunisia to play draw, I am going there to beat them. I am glad my players have played with them so now they know their strength” coach Dedevbo stated.
Meanwhile, Director of Competitions at the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) Mohammed Sanusi says the Technical crew must learn from this match to make sure they apply what they have learnt for improvement in their subsequent matches.
“We have done our best by providing them with all what they need, the bulk now stops with the technical crew to learn from this first leg and know how to apply it in the return leg,” he said.
Sanusi however confirmed that the Falconets will fly out of the country on Thursday, December 19th to Tunisia to honour the return leg of the tie.
