Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State and a Chieftain of Afenifere, Dayo Adeyeye has urged registered voters in the State to protect their voters cards, alleging that; “agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are now going about buying voters cards and collecting people’s Voters Identification Number (VIN) and Polling Unit (PU) number.”
In a release issued by the Director General of Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), Bisi Kolawole, the governorship hopeful said it was criminal for anyone to be demanding for information on people’s voters’ cards before they can benefit from government programmes.
Adeyeye called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega to make sure that no manipulation is done to the Voters Register through unscrupulous staff of the commission.
He said; “The information we are getting is that some agents of the State government are going about, collecting VIN and PU numbers of people’s voters’ cards.
“We have also been told that VIN and PU numbers of civil servants are being collated through some bad eggs in INEC, with the sinister motive of getting names of the affected people deleted from the voters’ registers.
“We wish to tell INEC that the PDP in Ekiti State will not accept any act of connivance with any INEC staff to deny Ekiti people the choice to elect their governor next year, as was done in the past.
“It is on record that it was INEC officials that were paid N180, 000 to invalidate already thumb printed ballot papers used for the Ekiti East Constituency II. They were paid by the Action Congress Nigeria (ACN) candidate in the election, Mrs Anthonia Alaba Omonusi.
“Up till today, we don’t know what has happened to Olusola Popoola, Ajayi Gbenga, Ojo Oluwafemi and Oni Babajide, the four INEC officials that were charged to court for the ‘Ibo lehin ibo’ (voting after voting) offence.
“This time around, INEC should watch the activities of its staff in Ekiti because a situation where INEC officials will be the ones to connive with the APC government in the State to manipulate voters registers ahead of the 2014 governorship election will be resisted.
