By Gracious Akujobi The General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Musa Ahmadu has predicted tough draw for Nigeria considering the quality of teams that qualified for the mundial.
Ahmadu hinged his prediction on the fact that since Nigeria is in pot two, there is no way it would escape big countries like Brazil or Spain. The draws hold on Friday in Brazil.
He therefore, said the Super Eagles must be ready to play either a South American team like Brazil or a team from Europe such as Spain in the group stage of the world cup.
“One thing is for sure, Nigeria will be put in the group with the top seed but whether that top seed will come from South America or Europe we do not know.
“But we will obviously get a country from Europe, a country from South America and possibly another country from CONCACAF, OCEANIA or Asia.
“Either way it is going to be a tough draw; we can’t look forward to having an easy draw because it is not going to easy”
“We can pray for a draw that will be suitable for us to qualify for the later stages of the competition but either way, we should look forward for a very tough draw”
“We should look forward to preparing very well in order for us to do very well,’’ Amadu said.
The NFF scribe, however, said the key to surviving tough opposition will depend on the result of Super Eagles first match at the tournament.
He said the Federation will do everything possible to avoid a repeat of 2002 and 2010 experiences when Nigeria crashed out of the tournament in the first round.
“ The key to qualification is for us to win our first match and that is the key to going to the later stages of this competition,” Amadu stated .
