President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to expalain his refusal to carry out presidential directive to relocate to Benue state in the wake of incessant farmers/fulani herdsmen clashes in the state.
Disturbed by loss of innocent lives in the state as a result of clashes, the president had ordered IGP Idris to relocate to Benue and remain there till peace return to the state.
But, Presient BUhari stunned Nigerians when he said during his recent visit to Benue state that he didn’t know that the IGP did not relocate to the state to hasten restoration of peace and order in the state.
Senior presidential media aide, Garba Shehu, confirmed that the IGP was an early caller at the State House on Tuesday, but declined to give details.
It was gathered that the President directed IGP Idris to provide full report on police operations.
In line with the renewed resolve to tackle killings and insecurity in Benue, President Buhari may take further decisions in the next few days.
