The Oyo State Government on Tuesday in Ibadan announced the Governing Councils of the six state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli, said that the appointment of the governing council members would help resolve some of the issues affecting the institutions.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela had recently assured that the announcement would be made soon.
The institutions had embarked on industrial action on issues bordering on reduction of their subvention to 25 per cent, which they alleged has affected the payment of salaries.
Alli announced Prof. I. A. Adeyemi as Chairman of the Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, while Prof. Lasun Olayiwola, Prof. Olusola Babalola, Dr Ajibola Eesuola, Dr Ehinlanwo, Messrs Kareem Abidoye, E.A. Adegun and Deji Akande are to serve as members.
He also announced Prof. Tijani Moshood as Chairman of the Governing Council of The OkeOgun Polytechnic, Saki, while Prof. O. D. Akinyemi, Dr Funmilola O. Omotayo, Barr Dimeji Okunlola, Mr Taoreed Adeleke, Mr Ayinla Lanre Musibau and Alhaji Raji Rasaki will serve as members.
The SSG said that Dr Ogundiran Ogunwale would head that of The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, while Dr Yemisi Obalowo, Dr Peter Olamakinde, Messrs Solomon Adeseun, Remi Olajire, Adewuyi Moruf Adebayo and Adegbite A. Ayodeji would be members.
Furthermore, Dr Sulaiman Adediran will serve s Chairman of the Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, while Prof. Fasasi Musibau Keulere, Olusanjo Akanmu, Omotosho Kayode, Messrs Adesiji Gbadegesin, Olatunji Arowolo and Adebayo Tirimisiyu will be members.
He stated that while Prof. Olanrewaju Ademola will head the Governing Council of College of Education, Lanlate, Dr Daud Alaga, Prof. Muritala Bidmoz, Mr Olaseni Adio, Mrs Rasheed Raliat, Adenrele Olayiwola and Hon. Bamidele Samson will serve as members.
Alli said that Prof. Lateef Sanni would chair the Governing Council of the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, just as Mrs Yemisi Iranloye, S.R.T. Oketobo, Hon, Rufai Oladejo, Mrs Mercy Aboyade, Barr. Joshua Olukunle, Alayande Rahman and Mr Temitope Samson will serve as members.
According to the SSG, the State Government is working assiduously to find sustainable solutions to the problems affecting the institutions.
He added that the constitution of the governing councils would address some of the issues.
He stated that the new governing councils will be sworn-in by Gov. Abiola Ajimobi in due course, assuring that all the institutions will resume academic activities soon.
