12th Mukharram 1435AH (15th Nov 2013)
Let start today with this Qur’anic Prayer:
2:286. …”Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maula (Patron, Suppor-ter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
Survival and comfort of Man and Nation is premised on his or her level of Economic self reliance. Anyone or Nation that lives on debt or has a strong taste or desire for what is not within his reach, is either a greedy or a lazy fellow. Such a person or Nation will either continue with lies as he borrows from time to time without means of repayment. When the Muslim Nations were not Consuming foreign things, no one tells them they were poor, see what happens when they develop taste for exotic poisonous items, they landed on their back, yakata.
For a person, family, Community, State or Nation to be stable and respectful, that person, Family or Nation must not owe anyone. For a fact, you will always be afraid of your Creditor and your Creditor will always exploit you and your resource.
The advent of Islam brought about purposeful development, the development in Sciences, Mathematics, Economics and Islam abolishes both Simple and Compound interest as it is obvious that interest on loan will make the borrower a-sorrowing. Allah then removes any blessing from the earnings from Usury. That brings about improvement in trading among people and trust was established.
It is however very sad, in fact very regrettable that the money kept in Banks that were supposed to be used in Capital re-investment is only given as a loan, the loan is spent on Consumable. It is a known fact that a Consumer is never financially stable.
When you collect a loan with interest because you need a fridge, TV, even a Car, some even because of phones, you then begin to wonder if such a one can ever do well financially. Is it a must that you must use the product at that particular point in time?
There are issues you need to resolve if you want to get out of debt and out of sorrow. If you must borrow, let it be on developmental Ventures capable of bringing money to your purse and better future for the family or Nation. If you borrow money to feed, you have strength to work and pay back loans, ditto for health and if you borrow money for your child’s Education, bearing any mishap, your child will succeed, start a job and pay back your loans! On housing, the benefit is obvious. However it is you get into debt, it is a known fact that a Muslim pay debt even at death, your inheritor must pay your debt before your Janazah.
Fear of Poverty:
2:268. Shaitan (Satan) threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit Faisha (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins etc.); whereas Allah promises you Forgiveness from Himself and Bounty, and Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures needs, All-Knower.
Because of poverty you become a gambler
For economic reasons, you sell your body and honor
You do drug, rig election, kidnap and kill for money
You need wisdom not to be affected by the tricks of trickster:
Imagine a Corporate entity telling you your number has been slated for a draw to win certain sum of money, the authority is looking on. Hun, May Allah deliverer us all. Amin. The beauty of Islam as a Religion is that it clearly spelt out what is bad and forbids it, and what is good is spelt out and you are encourage to do as much as you are capable of doing.
2:269. He(s.w.t) grants Hikmah to whom He pleases, and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding.
It takes wisdom to realize that wealth has no permanent relation
If you manage wealth properly it stays with you
If you mismanage it, it leaves you or your home and move on
Your first line of Wealth is your health and Time I.e 24 hrs
If you have wealth and you drink away your life
When your health deteriorate, all the monetary wealth you have cannot buy back your health
Spending wisely is wise investment
2:270. And whatever you spend or whatever vow you make, be sure Allah knows it all. And for the Zalimoon (wrong-doers, etc.) there are no helpers.
He who go a borrowing go a-sorrowing
When you gamble play lotto or lottery, it disappears as it comes
You know, come easy go easy. Cheap fund is never blessed
If you drink, smoke, abuse drugs, both simple and hard
When you have Kidney or Liver failure, even if someone donate an Organ to you
Will it be like original, cost of maintenance and your family discomfort?
If you invest your time and health wisely, you reap bountifully.
Believers to not collect usury:
2:278. O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah and give up what remains (due to you) from Riba (usury) (from now onward), if you are (really) believers.
Collect your Capital Sum:
2:279. And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly
Granting Debt Relief is recognized by Allah:
2:280. And if the debtor is in a hard time (has no money), then grant him time till it is easy for him to repay, but if you remit it by way of charity, that is better for you if you did but know.
Spread the time of repayment
If in serious difficulty, debt write-off has its reward by Allah
Debtor and Creditor to Think of Tomorrow:
2:281. And be afraid of the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. Then every person shall be paid what he earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.
A typical scenario of a debt repayment by the Son of the Deceased
Volume 3, Book 49, Number 872: Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah:
My father died and was in debt.
I suggested that his creditors take the fruits (i.e. dates) of my garden
in lieu of the debt of my father,
but they refused the offer, as they thought that it would not cover the full debt.
So, I went to the Prophet and told him about it.
He said (to me), ‘When you pluck the dates and collect them in the Mirbad (i.e. a place where dates are dried), call me (Allah’s Apostle).’
Finally he came accompanied by Abu Bakr and ‘Umar and
sat on the dates and invoked Allah to bless them.
Then he said, ‘Call your creditors and give them their full rights.’
So, I paid all my father’s creditors in full and
yet thirteen extra Wasqs of dates remained,
(seven of which were ‘Ajwa and six were Laun or six of which were Ajwa and seven were Laun. )
I met Allah’s Apostle at sunset and informed him about it.
On that he smiled and said, ‘Go to Abu Bakr and ‘Umar and tell them about it.’
They said, ‘We perceived that was going to happen, as Allah’s Apostle did what he did.’
The Prophet was reported to have said: He that owes and has the intention of paying back what he owes, Allah s.w.t will make way for him to be able to pay.
The essence of life is to know that going a-borrowing is to go a-sorrowing, getting into debt is not a comfortable position, refusing to pay your debt will worsen your position, at death your inheritors should pay otherwise, you have to pay back on Judgment Day. Therefore for stability and development reduce your Consumption and depend less on Foreign product and use your Local products.
