For allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing clothes valued at N300,000, a 48-year-old tailor, Bukola Dada, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Dada, whose residential address is unknown, is being tried for burglary and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offences sometime in the month of August, at 2:00am, at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused broke into the shop of Mrs Jumoke Oluwatade and stole wear valued at N300,000.
“The accused stole the complainant’s clothes,” Awase said.
He said that the accused was arrested when he came a second time.
“The accused burgled the shop in August and carted away goods; he was caught on Dec. 3 breaking the wall of the shop again to gain access in order to steal.
“When he was questioned by the police, he confessed that he sold those stolen clothes to one Amusa Abdullahi,” he said.
The offences contravene Sections 287 and 309 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised), and the accused risks seven years in prison, if found guilty.
Dada pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr J. A Adigun, said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government for two years.
He adjourned the case until Dec. 29, for mention.
