Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo Sunday arrived the State of Kuwait for the 3rd Africa-Arab Summit.
He was received on arrival by Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait in company of the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. Viola Onwuliri, the Ambassador of Nigeria to Kuwait, Senator Haruna Garba and the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Abdulaziz Ahmad Al-Sharrah, at the Amir Terminal of the Kuwaiti International Airport.
The Vice President is leading the Nigerian delegation on behalf of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at the Summit. As a tradition of President Jonathan, the Vice President would meet with the Nigerian Community in Kuwait and Bahrain and also hold bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the event.
Sambo has in his entourage Senator Mohammed Magoro, Chairman Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence and the Special Adviser to the Vice President on Special Duties, Senator Isaiah Balat, among other top government officials.
Speaking on the benefits of the Summit to Nigeria, the Nigerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Senator Haruna Garba, noted that the theme of the Summit, “Partners in Development and Investment” sums it all up.
He observed that it would not only foster better relations between Nigeria, Kuwait and the entire Arab world, but would also avail the business communities of Nigeria, Kuwait and the Arab world, investment opportunities in their economies.
Ambassador Garba added that the Summit would also bolster existing cooperation between Africa and the Arabs in the areas of education, agriculture, oil and gas, and the energy sectors among other sectors.
The event which will open on Tuesday 19th November, 2013 is expected to be graced by about 43 leaders. It is aimed at establishing mutually beneficial partnerships and also to create better developmental opportunities and reinforce existing investment projects.
The Kuwaiti Summit is the third in the series which holds after every three years. The last was held in 2010 in Sirte, Libya.
