The death of Madam Selimot Ebudola Adeniyi [Nee Raheem Fesomu] has been announced at Ago-Iwoye Ijebu, in Ogun state.
The Matriarch of the Adeniyi Dynasty of Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu, Madam Adeniyi passed on at the age of 96 on Thursday October 31 at her residence at Ayegbami, Isamuro, Ago-Iwoye. Her manner of death was remarkable in the sense that she was hale and hearty and in robust health up to the very last minute when she bade the physical world farewell. She had launch at 3pm and by 3.15, while chatting with some of her children and grandchildren, she stopped talking, and without slumping from her seat, she simply passed on wearing a smile on her lips and eyes wide open.
A Princess of both Idobiri and Aba quarters in Ayepe the late Madam Selimot was also related to Okun Owa. Her paternal grandmother Atakan who hailed from Odogbolu was a daughter to the first Tami [head of the Agemos] in Odogbolu.
Madam Adeniyi also had her genealogy on her mother’s side stretching from the Adan-bi-ide and the Fidipote [father of Osikoya Oyembamu] ruling dynasties in Ago-Iwoye and Ijebu-Ode respectfully.
Married to the late Prince Ambaliyu Alaba Adeniyi who passed on in 1992, also on a Thursday January 31, Madam Adeniyi lived most of her growing up years at Ijebu Ode before relocating to Liyangi in Ago- Iwoye to live with her paternal grand mother.
A trader throughout her life, Madam Adeniyi was a most enterprising, accommodating and jovial woman who drew a large following to herself through love and caring. She was a great community leader. A very bright, brilliant and knowledgeable woman Madam Adeniyi was the family’s resident historian.
An only child who lost her mother at age 3, Madam Adeniyi was survived by 4 children, Mrs Adunni Ifenuga, Chief Tola Adeniyi, Mr Abdul Tawab Ile-Aje Adeniyi, a renowned actor of Arelu fame and Chief Bola Adeniyi. Her second daughter Mrs Tolu Adesegun predeceased her in 2010. Left to mourn her also are 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and several relations and their children.
Final Burial rites will come up on Friday December 13 at the Ago- Iwoye City hall .
