LAGOS – Two men, Oluwole Omidiji, 42, and Stephen Oge, 40, were on Monday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly conspiring to steal a car valued at one million naira.
Omidiji of Aliu Street and Oge of Aina Close both in Gbagada, Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told court that the accused men committed the offences on Oct. 11 at No 5, Rstraport Avenue, Sholuyi ,Gbagada.
He said that the complainant, one Olasukanmi Olasunbo, an engineer, reported the matter at the Ifako Police Station in Agege, Lagos.
Olasunmbo said he handed over his Toyota Corolla car with registration No: KSF 01 CK to Omidiji, a panel beater to repair but that Omidiji later told him that the car was stolen from the workshop.
He said he gave the spare key to the panel beater and that the photocopies of the vehicle’s particulars were in the vehicle.
The prosecutor said that offences contravened Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused men, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Omidiji said he strongly suspected Oge, the driver of the complainant because the car went missing after the driver came to the workshop.
Oge said, however, that when the accident happened, the occupants of the vehicle that hit him collected the car key, remote device and copies of the particulars and his phone in lieu of the damage done to their own vehicle.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.S. Amzat, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Dec. 13 for mention.
