Captain Atanda Fatai, a member of Nigeria Hockey Federation’s (NHF), Technical Committee, on Saturday said the federation would soon hire a foreign Technical Adviser for the male team.
Fatai told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the idea was to stimulate the team to high performance for global glamour.
He said that the team’s unimpressive performance at the last hockey Africa Nations cup in Egypt was the reason for the plan to hire a foreign technical adviser.
“Nigeria has only two high performance coaches and it is not good for us.
“We need to move along with the global trend,” Fatai said.
The official, who stressed the imperatives of transforming hockey, said many countries had started preparations for nation’s cup coming up in the next two years.
He said that the essence of a foreign coach was to expose the players to long term preparations and tournaments.
“We shall engage the foreign Technical Adviser, who possibly will be a Belgian for a longer duration for qualitative results,” he said.
Fatai, however, commended the female team for moving up to the third position in Africa, but urged them to do more.
