AWKA – Anambra State Government has commenced employment of 5,000 teachers across primary and secondary schools in the state.
The announcement was made during the 2017 World Teachers Day, held at Teachers Secretariat, Awka.
Gov. Willie Obiano, who said this, noted that the essence was to engage more qualified teachers to fill some vacant positions in schools.
“The 5,000 teachers will replace the aged ones, who are not able to teach effectively.
“They must be highly qualified to sustain the level of academic excellence we have achieved.”
The governor said in addition that he would commence perimeter fencing of all primary and secondary schools to provide adequate security and further make available necessary facilities that would encourage proper learning.
“We have renovated 2,100 classroom blocks across the three senatorial zones and provided six water ambulances for those in riverine areas for prompt response to emergency situations,’’ Obiano said.
He, however, urged teachers to improve on their skills and ensure effective service delivery.
The State Head of Service, Mr Harry Uduh said that teachers occupied sensitive positions in the society.
He said that they benefitted from various appointments by the present administration.
Uduh noted that Obiano administration placed premium on the welfare of teachers across the state.
