            By Paul Efiong

Sixth Media Lane Consult Ltd, organisers of the Africa International Movie Summit (AFRIMS) says it will collaborate with Federal Ministry of Information and Culture on the Digital Switch-Over summit to improve content creation.

The National Coordinator, Mr Sixtus Opara, made this known in Abuja. He said that the summit with the theme: “Africa Cinema; Now that the digital switch-over is here’’, would be held in Abuja.

“The summit will focus on the leverage inherent in the digital switch-over; and on how it can be harnessed for content creation that is sufficiently dynamic to allow for ease of migration.’’

Opara, a film producer and actor noted that Nollywood had since become the mirror through which African cinema was perceived; “therefore it must be ready for digitisation’’.

“AFRIMS will enable filmmakers and actors to interface with content creators with emerging technology and emerging content apps,’’ he said.

Opara said that to achieve the set objectives, AFRIMS 2017 had sourced commissioned papers and position submission on the digital switch over from professionals and experts in the film industry.

He said that the team of experts include Prof. Hyginus Ekwuazi, former Director-General, Nigeria Film College, Jos, Prof. Femi Shaka of the University of Benin and Dr Paddy Njoku, the Director-General, International Institute of Leadership and Governance,  Abuja, among others.

The summit will be declared open by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the guest speaker will be the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed.

The two-day conference will hold from Oct. 30 to 31 at the Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
