Vice President Namadi Sambo has called on the striking members of ASUU to call off their strike in the interest of the students and the nation.
Sambo made the call at the weekend in Gadau, Bauchi state, while commissioning the State University.
The Vice President added “ASUU should note that during negotiations, it requested the Federal Government to shift its position from its previous stance and the federal government did so positively. It is now the turn of ASUU to reciprocate this gesture by considering its position and act speedily to save our education from deterioration.”
Vice President Sambo, However lauded the achievements of Isa Yuguda’s government on its efforts at tackling the problems confronting the education sector in the state. He commended the governor’s holistic approach and also praised him for the full utilization of MDGs funds accruing to the state to education and other critical areas.
Earlier In his remark, Governor of Bauchi state Isa Yuguda stated that the establishment of the university was informed by the realization of the role played by tertiary institutions of learning in the socio-economic development of any society.
He added that the university would afford indigenes and other Nigerians the opportunity
to access university education and to acquire knowledge and the exposure needed to contribute their quota to their various communities, states and the nation at large.
