President of the Senate, David Mark, Friday described the former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Solomon Daushep Lar, as a politician that sired many political children across the nation’s geo-political zones.
Mark, who stated this when he paid condolence visit to the Lar family in Maitama, Abuja, recalled that the late former governor invited him to join the PDP immediately he (Mark) returned from exile.
“And there are many senators who have told me that he dragged them into politics and to join the PDP and that they owe whatever they are in politics to his guidance and fatherly advice.
“Also, while alive, his activities cut across the length and breadth of this great country. They cut across religious divides and geo-political zones.
“He is a father to so many. He is a father of a multitude. The legacies he has left behind will be difficult for anybody to build. We should all be proud that he lived up to our expectations,” the President of the Senate remarked.
In her response, the Lar’s wife, Mary, said the last wish of her husband was for Nigeria “to remain one in unity and keep being one great country.
“He said Nigerians must continue to live in peace together and must not be divided. You therefore have a big role to play in uniting Nigeria. You should do all you can to bring everybody on board and make Nigerians feel they belong to this country,” she said.
Noting that her husband played “a special role in the history of our country,” Lar said her husband “affected the lives of many Nigerians, the high and low, the big and small as well as the young and old.
“He was a man of special favour. The days of love, unity and peace of this country which he represented must not die with him,” she added.
