Vice President Namadi Sambo Tuesday conveyed another meeting of stakeholders to find a way of ending the strike action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that has been on for four months now.
But this time around, ASUU officials were not present. The meeting was attended by only officials from government side.
In attendance were the acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), pro Julius Okojie and the Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Prof Isaac Adewole among others.
But, rather than briefing State House correspondents who had been waiting, those who attended including the Minister of Education evaded the briefing.
It will be recalled that Vice President Namadi Sambo took over negotiation with ASUU in September when he conveyed meeting of stakeholders attended by ASUU President, Nasir Isa Fagge.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Dipo Fasina and Dr. Abdullahi Sule-Kano; the Vice Chancellors of Bayero University Kano (BUK), University of Ibadan (UI) and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Professors Abdulrasheed Abubakar, Isaac Adewole; Muhammed Hamisu Muhammed.
The lecturers have been on strike in the last four months, pressing among other things for the release of substantial amount of money to upgrade infrastructure as well as payment of outstanding allowances.
