By Olusegun Lawrence Mr. Babachir Lawal, suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Thursday, failed to appear before the Senate committee investigating the N200 million grass cutting contract.
The committee chairman, Senator Shehu Sani, prior to adjourning the sittingwhich started at 10.00am, told newsmen that embattled Babachir Lawal, did not collect the invitation sent to him as he chased away the delivery official who went to his house.
Sani recalled that the committee had to fix the sitting for today, Thursday, at the instance of Babachir Lawal, prior to his suspension.
He posited that the committee has done enough to give him fair hearing, adding it was his choice not to appear before the investigative committee as scheduled.
Prompt News recalls that Babachir, who was indicted by the Committee in its interim report, had cried foul that he was not given fair hearing.
In the report, the committee found out that Babachir allegedly used proxies to secure N200 million contract to clear “invasive plant species in Yobe state, Northeast Nigeria.
Following his suspension by President Muhammadu Buhari last week, Babachir Lawal, is now being probed by a three-man presidential panel headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
