A WAHO Health Information Management Team has visited the Public Health National Emergency Operation Center, Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS), Sierra Leone.
The purpose of the team’s visit from March 14-16, 2017, was to follow up on the process of implementation, operationalization and utilization of the regional platform for information sharing among the ECOWAS region with the aim of supporting the countries epidemiological surveillance activity.
The visiting team was led by Mr. Tome Ca, who expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the Surveillance Data Unit operates.
He stated that DHIS 2 which is currently used by Surveillance Data Team in Sierra Leone as a data tool is a step in the right direction because it is also used by WAHO regional Office.
He further explained that this new development will enhance effective information sharing with WAHO regional Head Quarters and other countries in the sub-region.
Mr. Tone Ca emphasized that the region in general and Sierra Leone in particular will benefit mutually in this process, since real time epidemiological surveillance data will be shared across the region which may trigger informed action by parties.
WAHO is devoted to support member countries to strengthen their health information and epidemiological surveillance systems by putting in place the West African Health Informatics.
