            Idonor

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state, Comrade Daniel Idonor, has enjoined the Urhobo nation to take advantage of its size as the single largest ethnic nationality in Delta to present and work for credible politicians for all future elections in the state.

Speaking at an interactive session with newsmen in his country home in Ughelli, he declared that the Urhobo people can not afford to be in the opposition for another political dispensation.

Idonor, a journalist cum politician who has covered the Presidential Villa for 10 years before venturing into politics was also a former President of the Students’ Union Government, University of Jos.

He decried the misfortunes of the Urhobo nation in the present political dispensation, but expressed confidence that the “Urhobo shall surely rise again, despite its current political misfortunes at the federal level”.

However, the former Chairman of the State House Press Corps, said his people can only take their rightful position both at the state and federal level if they push forward credible politicians with the necessary prerequisites to garner the support and goodwill of stakeholders in future elections.

Idonor also stressed the need to work with other ethnic groups in the state in order to improve Urhobo political fortune. The person that Delta state needs in 2015 must be a detribalised Deltan who strongly believes and resolves to give all parts and zones of the state equal and quality development.

“A principled democrat who is committed to the free will of the people to choose their leaders at all levels without undue influence or imposition which most of the time is perpetuated under the guise of zoning.

“Deltans also need a diligent person who believes in the dignity of labour and who has excelled in his chosen career and is willing to bring Delta and Deltans back again to the old values of hard work, honesty, respect and hospitality which our people were known for.

“Our people require a civilised personality whose contact and experience cut across all sections and sectors of the society; a less controversial person who has not been negatively exposed to political power and authority within and without the state; and a fine and humble gentleman who is meek but firm in decision making and implementation.

“A resourceful and successful person who will be able to access the needed resources to execute his or her political ambition and aspiration during elections,” said Idonor, who is also the National Coordinator of the Dickens Sanomi Foundation.
