President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Prof Anya. O. Anya, as a member of the Advisory Committee on National Dialogue.
He replaces Prof Ben Nwabueze who had earlier turned down the appointment. Former member of the Senate, Femi Okunrounmu heads the 13-man committee.
Prof Nwabueze, a foremost constitutional lawyer and leader of The Patriots, had on Thursday in a press statement explained in detail why he rejected the appointment.
Citing ill-health, the elder statesman opined that assignment such as the national dialogue requires much younger persons and not for a 83-year old man like himself.
A terse statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim reads, “Mr. President has also approved the following appointments:
“Prof. Anya. O. Anya, as a member of the Advisory Committee on National Dialogue to replace Prof. Ben Nwabueze, who is still abroad on health grounds.
“Mr Pius Olakunle Osunyikanmi as Director General/ Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Technical Aids Corps”.
