It promises to be a new dawn for women football in Nigeria from next football season if the plans to stop state governments from sponsoring two male clubs henceforth become law.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sounded the warning in a resolution after its maiden Executive Board meeting on Tuesday in Abuja that a state government will no longer be allowed to sponsor two male clubs in the same league in a season.
Instead, states will be allowed to sponsor one each of male and female clubs in a season.
Prompt News exclusively gathered that the Federation wants to implement the FIFA Code of Ethics as was recently directed by the NFF integrity Unity.
Sources at the Glass House revealed that if the authorities implement the new rule, state government will have no choice but to establish female football team in addition to male club.
