YOLA – Dr. Margee Ensign, President of American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa state, Nigeria, is excited that more foreign students are coming to the University to study just as 155 new students on Monday took the Spring 2017 Pledge.
Speaking during the Pledge Ceremony held at the University’s Robert Pastor Library & E-Learning Centre, Dr. Ensign said more parents are now realizing that insurgency is fading hence, the decision to enroll their wards in the University.
According to her, over 4,000 applications were received out of which 500 were shortlisted and only 110 were successful to undertake undergraduate courses having scored above 200 in their JAMB examinations. The rest are post-graduate students, foreign students and others transferring from notable Western Universities.
Dr Ensign enjoined the new students to make a difference by playing positive roles that could change Nigeria and Africa.
“Today is an exciting and most important day in your lives. Embark on voyage of discovery, discover the world, take advantage of every minute, every day and of the resources available,” the AUN president advised.
Dr Ensign said 15 percent of the new students are on scholarship while no fewer than 10 percent are foreign students.
Addressing the new students, the President of Student Government Association, Abdulrahman Bapullo, commended parents of the new students for making the “right decision”, urging the students “whatever your dream is, go for it. At AUN anything is possible for every one of you.
Also speaking, Mr. Byron Bullock, Vice President and Dean of Students, spoke extensively about their first academic day on the campus, saying “Tuesday is coming, march into the classroom with courage and confidence.
The AUN President administered the Pledge, “Today I vow to seek and speak only the truth and to demand of myself the absolute integrity that I have a right to expect of everyone at American University of Nigeria.
“This I pledge, for the sake of Nigeria, for the sake of Africa, for the sake of our futures, and in service to community and country, with you and to you, my fellow members of the American University of Nigeria.”
