Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) rose from its Board meeting on Saturday in Abuja, approving the suspension of Prof Yahaya Ukwenya, representing North-west on the board.
Consequently, the Board has directed the Secretariat to inform the Ministry of Youth and Sports accordingly.
The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting reads:
That the Board commended the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports development for their support to the game of Cricket in Nigeria and enjoined the Ministry to make funds available for all future programmes
The meeting agreed to set up Cricket secretariat in every state of the federation for developmental purposes.
The board has promised to henceforth work in harmony, Unity and charged the secretariat to always furnish members with the programmes of activities
The board approved the 2017 programmess of activities submitted to it by the General Manager and asked Mr Okon Ukpon to liaise with the secretariat on the operational guidelines
Due to unethical and contravention of NCF code of conduct, the board resolved unanimously to suspend Professor Yahaya Ukwenya representing North-west and mandated the secretariat to notify the Ministry.
The meeting observed a minute silence in honor of the former captain of the national team Chris Enahoro, who died recently and promised to play active role in his burial.
The board thanked President Emeka Onyeama and the secretariat for their effort in putting Cricket among the games in the last National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State as well as the ongoing construction work of two turf Cricket ground at the package B of the Abuja National Stadium
The meeting was attended by nine board members including President Emeka Onyeama, Vice President Soki Dakoru, Olisa Egwautu, Kayode Adeniyi, Bimbo Olusola Sowolu, Okon Ukpon, Saidu El-buba, Oyewale Obalola, Sanmi Ajayi, also in attendance is the Secretary of the Federation Kabir Yusuf and General Manager Eshua Joseph.
