By: Gracious Akujobi The Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi has heaped plaudits on the Aminu Maigari-led Nigeria Football Federation, saying the administration has done so much to steer Nigeria football in the right direction over the past few years.
In a special letter of commendation signed on his behalf by the Director of Federations and Elite Athletes Department, Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba, the Sports Minister hailed “the sterling achievements of the NFF Board since Aminu Maigari took over the mantle of leadership.
“Your achievements since 2010 till date are quite spectacular and symbolic. It is our prayer that the Almighty God shall continue to give you the strength and wisdom to steer the NFF ship to stardom.”
It can be recalled that the present NFF administration has won six trophies (three from competitive tournaments and three from high-profile friendly internationals), as well as fostered peace within the Nigeria football family, innovated severally to take the different Leagues to new heights, nurtured a purposeful and positive relationship with the leadership of the National Sports Commission and co-operated with the Presidential Task Force to actualise a first-ever, state-of-the-art NFF Headquarters.
The Maigari-led team has also insisted on a transparent process that has produced the most credible Nigeria U-17 team ever, put a lot of energy into development programmes and given Super Eagles’ coaching crew full support in the rebuilding process that has turned around the fortunes of the squad for the better, with victory at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in January, a first-ever qualification for the African Nations Championship and imminent qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.
