A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has won the Ondo governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He emerged winner of the primaries held on Saturday at the International Event Centre (The Dome), Akure, by 669 votes.
The Chief Returning Officer of the primaries and Governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar, announced the result in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Mr Olusegun Abraham, the aspirant favoured by the APC National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, came second with 635 votes.
Mr. Tinubu had openly declared support for Abraham, a situation that caused division within the party.
Mr. Olusola Oke, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2012 election, garnered 576 votes; Senators Robert Boroffice and Omotayo Alasoadura got 471 and 206 votes respectively.
Dr. Tunji Abayomi could only managed to get 5 votes.
An elated Akeredolu in his acceptance speech expressed appreciation to the Chief Returning Officer, Governor Abubakar for ensuring a transparent exercise.
He also enjoined other aspirants to join him so that the APC could defeat the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, on November 26.
Prompt News Online recalls that Mr. Akeredolu was the candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2012 election.
