Some Nigerians are daily devising crook means of smuggling banned items including into the country.
On Thursday, operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service nabbed a smuggler at the Seme Border.
The smuggler, Moses Degbogbahunho, was arrested while trying to smuggle bags of rice packaged as dead bodies into the country.
He loaded 11 50kg bags of rice in a Volvo ambulance with Lagos registration number DV 74EKY, well packed to appear as dead bodies.
However, he was caught by Customs officials on patrol led by Chief Superintendent of Customs, Mr. Ozah.
According to the Customs officer, they became suspicious because of the frequency with which he was bringing in ‘dead bodies’ into the country in the ambulance.
The officer spoke further, “So he was stopped around Aradagun area of Badagry, and proper examination was carried out by our men during which eleven bags of imported rice wrapped as corpses were found in the ambulance.”
