Uromi na-Agabazilo, a socio-cultural and non-partisan organisation committed to the articulation and resolution of socio-cultural and political issues affecting the wellbeing of Uromi sons and daughters, rose from a meeting in Uromi, urging support by entire Esan land for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Hon. John Yakubu.
The group, according to the two-page communiqué jointly signed by Chairman of the meeting, Professor P.O. Onolemhemhen and conveners of the meeting–Rt. Hon Friday Itulah, Bishop (Dr) Anthony Okosun, Clifford E. Inegbedion, High Chief Enia Moses, William Oniha and Chief (Mrs) Azeke–thanked Esan leaders for choosing one of their own, Hon. Yakubu, as running mate to Ize-Iyamu of the PDP.
It urged all Uromi sons and daughters in particular and Esans in general across Edo State to vote en-masse for the Ize-Iyamu/Yakubu governorship ticket in the September 10 election.
The meeting, the communiqué said, thanked the conveners for their “foresight in bringing Uromi sons and daughters, Uromi-based clubs and associations to discuss a common issue for the security and wellbeing of the people,” and urged that “a similar meeting of this nature be convened whenever issues affecting the security and wellbeing of Uromi people arise.”
According to the communiqué, the meeting resolved that “at all times, Uromi people should stand behind their sons and daughters holding positions of authority in all areas of human endeavour anywhere without reservations.”
The meeting, the communiqué continued, “urged all sons and daughters of Uromi kingdom at home and in the Diaspora to organise themselves into groups and associations for the purpose of promoting, propagating and defending Uromi common interest in particular and Esan (land) in general.”
