LAFIA – By Alhaji Mohammed             The Nasarawa state joint Security Council on Tuesday confirmed that two persons died during protest by Nasarawa Polytechnic students last week but insisted that they were not killed by the Police.

Rising from a meeting in Lafia, the council comprises of heads of all security agencies in the state, posited that the two persons were killed by a pellet and not a bullet as earlier speculated.

The state Attorney General and Commissioner of justice, Yusuf Shehu, who briefed newsmen after the meeting said, full investigation of the incident was in progress by all relevant agencies, and assured the public that the perpetrators of the act would be brought to justice.

His words, “From the official reports received by the council and relevant agencies, so far, it was confirmed and established that two persons lost their lives, one was allegedly killed by a pellet while the other person suffered head injuries from a large blunt object, but certainly not a bullet as earlier speculated .”

He further stressed that Government did not at any given time anticipate the large crowd of protesters at the Government House gate which he attributed to the unfortunate incident that occurred on that day when the National Leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC visited the state.

The council therefore, expressed deep regret over the loss of lives and shared in the grief of the family of the deceased, advising all citizens to remain calm and go about their normal lawful businesses as government was in full control of the situation.
