Nigeria’s new U-17 side, Golden Eaglets on Saturday recorded their second successive win in a 5-0 score against Sia-One Soccer Academy at the NFF\FIFA Project Pitch in Abuja.
Midfielder Yusuf Abdulrasak grabbed Eaglets’ curtain raiser in the 24th minute from a tap-in off Tolu Arokundare’s intuitive pass. Sudaisi Baba-Ali added the second goal in the 37th minute. Second half substitute, Nasifi Yahaya followed up with a brace while Chinonso Chukwuemeka scored the fifth with almost the last kick of the two-hour energy-sapping match.
Amongst the spectators were NFF 2nd Vice President and LMC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko with some members of the Abuja-based All-Star Team who waited behind after their usual early morning knock-about. Dikko described the Golden Eaglets’ performance against Sia One Academy as encouraging as the team builds towards its forthcoming 2017 U-17 AFCON qualifying fixture against Niger Republic.
“There is quality in the team as we can see and I believe with more technical tutorship, they are going to do very well,” declared Dikko after the match. Similarly, Golden Eaglets’ assistant coach Atune Ali, who stood in for Head Coach Manu Garba, noted the good team’s fighting spirit in grinding out its second successive victory.
