ABUJA – The Police Service Commission Labour Union has given the management a 24-hour ultimatum to involve them in the forthcoming recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police or face demonstration by Tuesday.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Mike Okiro and made available to Prompt News Online, the union expressed dissatisfaction with the series of negotiation it held with the management on the issue.
The letter to Mr. Okiro signed by the representatives of Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria and Nigeria Civil Service Union states:
“As a fall out of our negotiation with Management concernin the fortcoming recruitment and the inability of both parties to find truce, we the joint associations of the Police Service Commission Labour Union write to convey our decisions to you as follows:
1.That we are not satisfied with the outcome of the series of negotiations with the Management on the forthcoming recruitment exercise culminating in a breakdown of talks today Friday, 27th May,2016.
11.That the management should revert to the former proposed arrangement allowing all staff to participate in the exercise for three weeks at the state levels.
111.That, if at all anyone is staying back at the office, it should be the Management Staff as it is done in other MDAs.
v.That the joint union will resort to peaceful demonstration if after Tuesday, 31st May 2016; our demands are not met.
Meanwhile, the Management has warned against the staff sabotaging the Federal Government programme on police recruitment.
“Management wishes to warn that anybody involved in this sabotage will be dealt with in accordance with Government rules and regulations.
“Staff are advised to be at their duty desk not later than 9am and remain there to do the job for which they are paid,” a statement issued by the management reads in part.
