FCT representatives at the 2016 Shell Cup Inter Secondary Schools Football Competition, FOSLA Academy, departed Abuja on Sunday to Minna, Niger State where they would battle other states for a place in the quarter finals of this year’s edition of the tournament.

The FCT team will play Kaduna State on Tuesday, before battling Katsina State on Wednesday and Nasarawa State on Thursday. Two teams are expected to qualify from the group. The FCT contingent which was led by a high powered delegation from the FCT Football Association and the FCT Secondary Education Board has promised to do FCT proud in the tournament. According to the Head Coach of the team, Igwe Gilbert, the team is prepared for task ahead, and would stop at nothing to ensure that the 2016 Shell Cup is returned to Abuja for the first time. He said that the boys who won the FCT 2015 Principals cup are well motivated towards achieving that feat.

Meanwhile, the FCT U-15 team at the weekend emerged as the Champions of the North Central Zone of the NFF/Zenith Bank Future Super Eagles football competition. The Abuja team was ruthless to their counterpart from Kwara State when the whalloped them by six goals to one. The Abuja team had earlier defeated Nasarawa State by four goals to nil and Niger State by three goals to nil.

In the U-13 category, Kwara state outscored FCT by four goals to two on penalties. The full time ended goaless.  Speaking at the end of the tournament, NFF Assistant Director (Technical) Siji Lagunju expressed happiness with the standard of game displayed by the six teams that participated in the tournament. He said that good players from the zone have been selected to represent North Central at National finals later next month.
