Former Super Eagles star, Nwankwo Kanu, has said that an outright win for the Eagles on Saturday is what Nigerians expect from the team.
Nigeria will play Malawi in Calabar on Saturday to determine who makes it through to the final round play off for the FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil in 2014. Kanu says Nigerians cannot bear seeing their team not qualifying for the world cup.
“The players have to focus and do what they know how to do. We know what happened to us the last time we played Kenya and we do not want a repeat of that tension-soaked match.
“it is now left for the coaches to tell the players what they want in the game but for us Nigerians victory is the only song we want to hear”
Speaking further, the Super Eagles Ambassador says three point against Malawi is non-negotiable as playing to get a draw may be dangerous.
“For me, I will say I want an outright win because the danger in settling for a draw is that anything can happen in the final second of the match which may cost us the opportunity to qualify”
“We have a good team and quality players why settle for a draw when we are playing at home, the best thing is to go all out to get the three points and make everyone happy”
Kanu, however urged Nigerians to support the players all the way and promised that in his capacity as the team’s ambassador he believes he will be the twelfth man on the pitch for the Eagles.
